Headaches and Laughter
Do you believe that most people who get regular headaches would agree that their headaches get triggered by emotions? The rest of the sufferers would probably say that their headaches bring up emotions. Either way, managing emotions plays a crucial part in managing headaches. Learning to bring more humor into your life is one way of positively managing these emotions.
A lot of headaches are brought on by stress. They are called tension headaches and are very common. Whether a headache is actually created by stress is not always certain, but we do know that any kind of headache will be exacerbated because of stress. One way to decrease stress levels is by incorporating more laughter in your life.
There is a reason why laughter is called the best medicine. One reason is that, when we laugh about something serotonin is released in the body. Serotonin is considered to be a neurotransmitter, which plays an important role with the central nervous system. It helps to relay messages from one part of our brain to another. Serotonin helps to regulate moods and decrease pain. It would make sense, then to try and bring more laughter into your life, especially if you experience headaches on a regular basis. Learning to laugh is one essential way to release stress and pain.
If you experience headaches regularly, why don’t you try bringing more humor into your life? Just try it for a while and see what happens. Do not watch the news or listen to lengthy sad stories. When watching television look for funny shows. Go to a comedy show and learn to tell jokes yourself. Search the internet for funny stories or jokes. Read a funny book. I also like to talk with children around the ages of 4 to 6 especially, as they will tell you funny things. Watching animals play can also bring about laughterToday, I try and perceive situations in a funny light. I was brought up in a home where we shared funny stories. In fact, my parents and my sister were naturally funny. This upbringing makes it easier for me to see the humor in situations that most people might not find funny. It can become a good habit when you practice bringing humor into your life.
Whether you experience headaches or not, try to incorporate more smiles and silliness into your world. Humor facilitates the release of endorphins which are chemicals that interact with the receptors in the brain. They help you to have a more positive outlook on life. Endorphins also act as analgesics, which means they decrease painful feelings. If you do get regular headaches, it makes sense to use humor to ward off pain and create a more positive outlook.
